Avalux Migraine Relief Lenses
Filtering the light that triggers your migraines
Light sensitivity is one of the most consistently reported migraine triggers, and it is not simply about brightness. Research points to a narrow band of the visible spectrum that activates specific retinal cells connected to pain pathways in the brain. Ordinary sunglasses reduce brightness across the board, which can actually worsen light adaptation over time.
Avalux lenses take a targeted approach, filtering the implicated wavelengths precisely while allowing the rest of the spectrum through. The result is a lens that can be worn comfortably indoors under fluorescent or LED lighting and in front of screens, rather than one that only works outside.
Patients with photophobia from concussion, dry eye, blepharospasm, or post surgical light sensitivity often benefit as well.
Whether these lenses are right for you
These lenses are not a treatment for migraine itself and do not replace neurological care. What they can do is remove one common trigger from the equation, which for light sensitive patients often represents a meaningful share of their attacks.
The best candidates are patients who notice symptoms worsening under fluorescent lighting, screen use, or bright sun, or who already find themselves wearing sunglasses indoors. During your consultation we discuss your trigger pattern, current management, and what a realistic expectation looks like.
Avalux can be produced in your prescription or as plano lenses if you do not require correction, and can be combined with our other lens options.

Precision filtering of the wavelengths linked to photophobia and migraine, in a lens that is wearable indoors and at a screen.

No. They remove one common trigger for light sensitive patients and are intended to complement, not replace, care from your physician or neurologist.
Yes. That is one of their advantages over standard sunglasses, which are too dark for comfortable indoor and screen use.
Standard blue light filters target a broad range aimed at digital eye strain. Avalux filters a narrower, specific band associated with migraine and photophobia pathways.
Coverage varies. Some plans treat them as a specialty lens and others do not cover them at all. We will check your benefits before ordering.
